“If we are not fully ourselves, truly in the present moment, we miss everything.” –Thich Nhat Hanh

We often spend a lot of our time ruminating about the past, or worrying about the future, when the biggest piece of the pie should be spent in the present moment. Of course we need to learn from the past, incorporate the lessons from past experiences into our being so that we grow as individuals, and we need to plan for the future. We need to plan, but we don’t need to worry about something that may or may not ever happen. Doing so invites chaotic and negative energy into our lives.

When we focus on the present moment, we are paying attention to what is real and right in front of us. Doing so allows us to be in each experience body, mind, and soul. When our kids are talking to us we are truly listening. When our partner or spouse gives us a hug we pay attention to what it feels like. When the birds chirp we appreciate it deep within us. We are able to see all of the little things that add up to make our days as blessings.

Life will pass us by in the blink of an eye if we let it. It takes practice, but appreciating and savoring each moment as it occurs can add so much meaning and joy to your life.

This short meditation can be enjoyed anytime you need to connect to the present moment. I hope you enjoy it!
